With the inauguration ceremonies in Washington D.C. fast approaching, we are reminded of leadership. Regardless of your political beliefs and thoughts on President Trump or President-elect Biden, they are leaders and they each have their own respective styles of leadership. But what about your style of leadership?

Paraphrasing the late management guru Peter Drucker, the difference between management and leadership is the difference between doing things right and doing the right things. Leaders do the right things.

Businesses tend to fail, not due to bad management, but due to bad leadership — the failure of the business leaders to do the right things. Failing to properly assess competition, failing to understand the market, failing to set the vision.

As the country prepares for a new leader, consider what you can do about your leadership. What “right things” are doing for your business? Yes, you have get the quotidian management matters done right but don’t lose sight of the future and what right things you need to do to get there.
