Is There Another "Big Lie" In Our Midst?

Is There Another "Big Lie" In Our Midst?

By now, we’ve all heard about the alleged “Big Lie” associated with last year’s Presidential election. But is there another Big Lie being perpetrated on the American public? Are companies lying about not being able to find workers?

You may have seen the article about the Florida worker applying for 60 jobs in one month … getting only 1 interview. All the places he applied to had been vocal about being unable to find workers. He was qualified to do all the jobs for which applied. In the end, nearly 3/4 of the employers totally ghosted him. Not an email, not a phone call. Nothing. Just the sound of the wind whipping through a canyon of broken hopes and dreams.

That would seem to run contrary to the notion that employers cannot find workers, woudln’t it?

Now look at the other way … from the vantage point of an unscrupulous business owner. Using COVID as an excuse, it’s possible to reduce your labor force while, at the same time, raise expectations as to the amount of work that can be performed by existing workers. Maintain your sales, but increase your profits. Get rid of workers (or simply choose not to fill open positions) who don’t directly contribute to the bottom line and the profits can go up even more. Publicly decry the “labor shortage” to generate sympathy. And in times where customers are tending to be more forgiving and accommodating, thinking a business is struggling with its labor pool, it is the customer who is ultimately being played for the fool.

If you’re running your business this way, stop. It’s not a good practice and will eventually catch up with you.
