Remote work or not?

With the cataclysmic shift in work arrangements brought about by the pandemic, so, too, came a cataclysmic shift in attitudes toward work. Now, some employers are trying to shift things back to the way they were, before March 2020. But, as law professors like to say, you just can’t un-ring a bell. Once rung, it’s rung forever.

Employers are concerned that employees are not productive at home with such concern rising to near paranoia levels. Some employers have even taken to tracking the keystrokes employees make on their computers! Employers are pushing a false narrative to people who don’t want to return to the office, saying they are just trying to quiet quit or do the bare minimum.

Studies have found, though, that less than 1/3 of workers want to be fully remote.

The secret sauce, as I have mentioned before, is to find a happy middle ground. Hybrid work arrangements allow the best of both worlds. And rather than trying to measure productivity by keystrokes, measure it by work accomplished. For instance, did the project get done within the expected time frame?
