No One Noticed He was Dead

No One Noticed He was Dead

Remember Weekend at Bernie’s? Two young men, knowing that they are the targets of a hit man, use Bernie as a figurative shield because they know the hit man is not supposed to kill them when Bernie’s around?

Richard: Yes, but Bernie’s dead. He’s not around anymore.

Larry: Yeah. I know that. You know that. Nobody else knows that.

Today’s workplace is Bernie. It’s dead and nobody else knows that. Or at employers don’t. With a two year track record of successful working from home, workers want the ability to work remotely so they can be their best as workers AND as family members.

“The most reluctant to face the new reality are going to have to experience significant pain to catch up,” said Julia Pollak, labor economist for job site ZipRecruiter, referring to companies. "Many may close barn doors after the horses have bolted."

“Firms have become increasingly positive on work from home as the pandemic has dragged on. They have adapted their management, organization and IT to operate more effectively with work from home employees,” Stanford Professor Nicholas Bloom said. “Additional return-to-office delays are likely to further increase long-run work from home levels.”

The employers who recognize that working from the office is dead are the ones who will succeed in the future. Don’t be Bernie.
